JENNY HOLZER War Paintings

Tuesday, October 6th, 2015

Until 22nd November 2015 Venice, Museo Correr – Sala delle Quattro Porte

In collaboration with the Written Art Foundation in Frankfurt, the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia promotes an exhibition, curated by Thomas Kellein , with the scientific direction of Gabriella Belli , of the American conceptual artist Jenny Holzer , a collateral event of 56. Venice Biennale .

The exhibition is a selection of paintings on a war theme by the artist, who lives and works in New York, over the course of ten years: this is a significant change compared to light LED for which she is best known. The twenty works that make up War Paintings - paintings of war- inspired infact by some State documents relating to military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq that followed the events of September 11, 2001. Many of these documents have been made public thanks to the FOIA (Freedom of Information Act) , a law that requires U.S. Government agencies to allow the free and public access to their archives, an invaluable resource for researchers, journalists and groups to protect the collective interest.

regata storica

Historical Regatta
is the most important and known regatta in Venice. It’s held every year the first Sunday of September, and this year will be the 6th!!! The actual event was born in 1841 when the Venice and the Venetians asked the permission to the Austrian authorities (at that time Venice was Austrian!!!) to organize a race through the Grand Canal. They wanted to keep trained and “alive” the honor and strength of the gondoliers. Starting from 1866, the Regatta became also a celebration of the past Serenissima Republic. And in 1899 became finally the HISTORICAL Regatta.

The Question of Beings

Thursday, May 28th, 2015

On the occasion of the 56th international art Biennale of Venice, amongst collateral events, Chang Yahon investigates the theme of being with the show “The Question of Beings” visible at the Santa Maria della Pietà (ground floor). Site-specific exposure occurs in a series of new paintings and installations that explore the conscious and unconscious nature of individuals. With these new works Chang questions the diversity and complexity of living beings, in an attempt to learn the similarities and differences between the recesses of human and animal instinct. Yahon Chang reflects his life experiences using the mode of meditative style portraiture: his feelings of rejection, acceptance, love and struggle seem to emerge by the paintings that appear to be made with chaotic, almost random traits, helping to create a singular compositional style.

per il bene della pace

Has been extended until May 3, 2015 the exhibition entitled “for the sake of peace – The long way towards Europe” organised in Palazzo Ducale “ sala dello scrutinio” during the Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union (July 1 – December 31, 2014).
The exhibition, which focuses on the theme of peace as a supreme value of European culture, collects the valuable documentary heritage from the Archivio di Stato di Venezia, cartographic images and peace treaties between European powers since the peace of Bologna in 1529 to the Declaration on human rights enacted in 1789.The succession of events documented suggests a progressive and growing awareness on the part of European leaders who can see the need to use policy tools to avoid the damages of the increasingly destructive wars , especially for the civilian populations in Europe.

Saturday, February 21st, 2015

For the first time in Venice, Grisha Bruskin (Moscow1945) offers us an evocative and inspiring exhibition, a complicated rebus but not impossible to decipher:
Alefbet is an alphabet of Kabbalistic nature, populated by 160 figures including angels and demons from the animal world, men pierced by lightning or carrying upon the shoulders their own shadow.
A pictorial Carnival, a little fairy, a sort of “archaeological” reconstruction of Shoa where fragments of a lost past resurfaces, experienced only indirectly by the artist, through the stories of relatives.
