On the occasion of the twentieth anniversary of Marni (fashion house founded in 1994 by Swiss designer Consuelo Castiglioni), Marni Prisma will occupy until November 22nd spaces of the Abbey of San Gregorio in Venice with “ Becoming Marni “, a site-specific in ‘ scope of the 56th Biennale of Art. Curated by Stefano Rabolli Pansera, under the supervision of Carolina Castiglioni, creative director of special projects at Marni, the exhibition consists of a hundred wooden sculptures made by the self-taught Brazilian artist Véio.
The artist aims to create real enigmatic sculptures, carving and painting wooden logs and branches located along the shore of the river near where he lives and works, a small village in north-eastern Brazil, called Nossa Senhora de Gloria. Here véio creates his figures: an animal, a human being at rest, a fantastic bird. Through processes of artistic transformation – scraping, shaving, adding a final layer of color – makes beings sinuous shapes and bright colors, visible to the public, thanks to a unique form of creativity that fits in the theme All futures of the World , the theme of the 56th Biennale di Venezia, drawing an ideal world that, therefore, could belong to the future.
