The Guggenheim Foundation presents the first Italian retrospective of Adolph Gottlieb (1903-1974) who is considered, with Mark Rothko and Arshile Gorky, one of the pioneers of the Abstract Expressionism in the lands overseas.
The exhibition goes along the pictorial development of this artist’s art, starting from the expressionist debut, influenced by the Cubism and the European Abstractionism, and continuing on studying the original evolution of a pictorial plan created by Gottlieb himself: in fact, in Pictograph the work is conceived as a controlled place where the artist inserts his own way of expressing symbols, dreams and evocations of the original mythological forms.
